Dear Fierce Feminists of NOW:
Women’s rights are under constant attack! We must be ready to meet the challenges ahead of us and need an innovative, dedicated, responsive leadership team at NOW leading us in battle!!
As a Black woman, incumbent President, Christian Nunes has the lived experience of navigating a path with odds stacked against her from the get-go. Imagine a childhood where her family was repeatedly attacked for moving into their neighborhood while being Black. But she has persisted, resisted and thrived! She has close to two decades of experience as a mental health therapist focusing on PTSD and other trauma as well as being a small business owner. Christian is uniquely positioned to meet the challenges of our times and chart the way forward for NOW as our President.
She could have not asked for a better partner and Vice President than Bear Atwood. With a long record of fighting for civil rights, Bear has been a dedicated fighter for our causes and a long time NOW member. Whether it was organizing college campuses for Planned Parenthood, serving as a Deputy Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division in New Jersey, or working on Southern Poverty Law Center’s youth’s justice project, she has brought progressive principles and her perspective as an out lesbian to NOW all through her tenure at NOW.
Christian and Bear took the helm at NOW less than a year ago, during a tumultuous time and have managed to calm the waters, institute meaningful reform in the management of the organization and have begun addressing long standing structural issues that have plagued NOW; all of this while navigating through the Covid pandemic.
We know that creating a sustainable, intersectional movement takes creativity, building coalitions and very importantly, time & patience. They have worked toward transparency, and we are happy to see it continues to be a goal for their new term. They intend to keep lines of communication open to all members as we navigate the complex waters ahead.
We the undersigned believe Christian and Bear have earned another full term and that is why we are supporting the Forward Together NOW ticket for National NOW president and vice president. We hope you will join us and vote for Christian Nunes & Bear Atwood.
