Dear Friends,

All the votes have been counted and I am thrilled to be elected to the City Council of Philadelphia, the 6th largest city in the United State of America, as an At-Large Council Member.

Thank you to the Philadelphia voters who believed in my candidacy. Thank you to my amazing family, our small but mighty Team Nina for Philly and all our supporters for your time, for your energy and for your friendship. I could not have done this without you.

We launched this campaign with one very simple priority: to make Philadelphia a healthier, stronger city. The fact is, the challenges we face as a city are, at their root, health-related challenges. From gun violence to education and economic growth, when we focus on making this a healthier city, we create a path toward equitable prosperity.

As a scientist, that will be my mission for the people I represent as a member of city council. I will advocate for fact-based, evidence-supported solutions to the issues that we’ve been trying to solve for decades. I firmly believe that Philadelphia is uniquely qualified to become a national leader in health-based solutions.

As the first South Asian/Bangladeshi American to be ever elected to Philadelphia Council and the only immigrant in recent history, I have the responsibility to craft policy that is inclusive and leaves no one behind.

I want you to know that my door will always be open to you and I encourage you to reach out to me with ideas, suggestions, or advice. I work for you and I won’t ever forget it.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Council Member-Elect, Nina Ahmad
